Au 15e siècle, Tombouctou était une ville prospère sur le Niger qui abritait cent mille habitants. Elle était au carrefour de plusieurs commerces : l’or, le sel, les esclaves et… les manuscrits. Ces précieux volumes parlent de tout : théologie, jurisprudence, médecine, histoire, sciences, poésie, mathématiques, géographie, astronomie, commerce, politique… Ce sont ces manuscrits que l’historienne torontoise Danièle Caloz est allée ” découvrir ” à Tombouctou, au Mali. Elle retrace la fabuleuse histoire de ces manuscrits africains, de comment ils ont été produits, préservés et cachés. Et surtout comment ils ont été redécouverts et renaissent aujourd’hui à la conscience du monde. Un véritable trésor qui réfute le mythe qui voulait que l’Afrique n’ait pas d’histoire écrite!
